Dr. José María Matilla introduces the Pectus Up in the IV Congreso Nacional Intermedio Fidel Camacho Duran de Cirugía de Tórax, XXVI Congreso de la Asociación Iberoamericana de Cirugía de Tórax (AIACT).
The congress was held in Barranquilla, Colombia, on 4, 5 and 6 October, organized by the Colombian Association of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery and sponsored, among others, by Biomedisys, distributor of Ventura Medical Technologies products in Colombia.
The Asociación Colombiana de Neumología y Cirugía de Tórax (Colombian Association of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery) main’s mission is the development of academic activities aimed at improving pneumology and thoracic surgery in Colombia, as well as promoting research and development of new techniques, such as the Pectus Up, the new extrathoracic implant developed by Ventura Medical Technologies for the Pectus Excavatum fixing. Actually, his vicepresident is Dr. José Andrés Jiménez Quijano, one of the surgeons trained in the Pectus Up technique in Colombia, who has already performed several surgeries there.
The AIACT is a non-profit, civil and private association made up by health professionals specialized in surgical thoracic diseases, which gathers several countries of the region along with others with historical links of cooperation, such as Spain, France, and the United States.
In the events scheduled for October 6, as a part of the Chest Wall and Pleura Symposium, Dr. José María Matilla, thoracic surgeon from Valladolid, Spain, was in charge of introducing the Pectus Up in his talk Taulinoplastia for surgical management of the Pectus Excavatum.
Dr. Matilla is coordinator of the Area of Thoracic Oncology of the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) and member of the Thoracic Surgery Department of the University Hospital of Valladolid, where he has also performed several successful surgeries with the Pectus Up.
