Vacuum Bell for Pectus Excavatum

What is the Vacuum Bell Therapy?

The Vacuum Bell, also known as the Eckart Klobe Suction Cup, is a non-surgical medical device designed to gradually elevate the sternum in patients with Pectus Excavatum. It works by creating controlled negative pressure inside a flexible silicone dome placed on the chest, encouraging the breastbone to rise over time and supporting progressive remodeling of the chest wall.

The device was developed by Dr. Eckart Klobe, and his design remains the medically recognised standard referenced in clinical literature and used by specialists worldwide.

Risk and Limitations of the Vacuum Bell

Use of the official Eckart Klobe® Vacuum Bell may cause mild, temporary effects such as skin redness, circular marks, light bruising or a feeling of tightness during suction.

These reactions are expected and usually disappear shortly after each session. Any persistent discomfort, unusual symptoms or difficulty tolerating the device should be evaluated by the prescribing physician before continuing treatment.

The Vacuum Bell should not be used in patients with:

  • Severe cardiopulmonary diseases
  • Active skin infections or open wounds in the chest region
  • Very rigid, severe deformities that require surgical correction
  • Conditions where suction is contraindicated

Recommended Use and Duration

Daily use typically ranges from 1 to 3 hours in adolescents and adults, while younger children may require shorter sessions. Treatment must be consistent and sustained over months, with the duration gradually increased according to the tolerance and the medical recommendations provided with the prescription.

Consistency is essential for achieving durable results.
