WHAT IS PECTUS EXCAVATUM?

Pectus Excavatum is:

A congenital deformity of the rib cage characterized by the thorax taking on a concave shape, like a «funnel».
The sternum is inverted inwards, which generates pressure on the vital organs of the thorax, thus restricting their growth capacity and causing shortness of breath and respiratory difficulties.
It occurs in 1 in every 1000 children and it is the most common congenital anomaly of the chest wall (90%).
The disease appears mildly at birth and worsens during childhood and adolescence.
There are other surgical methods to correct the Pectus Excavatum:

- The Nuss procedure

Out of the collaboration between Ventura Medical Technologies and the Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí, a new product is born: the Pectus Up Surgery Kit, aimed at performing a new less invasive technique for Pectus Excavatum patients.

The Pectus Up is a set of implants and tools manufactured with the aim of treating this disease by means of a new extrathoracic surgical method that substantially reduces the risk of the intervention, post-surgical pain and recovery time.
