MEXICO AUTHORIZES THE PLACING ON THE MARKET OF THE PECTUS UP

Mexico, which has a large number of pediatric and thoracic surgeons very relevant in Pectus Excavatum treatment, adds to the countries where the Pectus Up can be placed on market.

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risk (COFEPRIS) certifies that the Pectus Up Surgery Kit is a quality medical device meeting Mexican standards related to healthcare products. Therefore, COFEPRIS authorizes Ventura Medical Technologies the distribution of the most innovative product for the cure of Pectus Excavatum. This new surgical method allows to treat this chest wall deformity, the most frequent one, with an extrathoracic approach and thus, minimally invasive.

After the Pectus Up obtained the CE Certificate, proving the developed medical device meets the EU security state members’ minimum legal and technical requirements, this pioneer and innovative technique for Pectus Excavatum treatment keeps gaining quality certifications in other continents.

Mexico, which has a large number of pediatric and thoracic surgeons very relevant in Pectus Excavatum treatment, adds to the countries where the Pectus Up can be placed on market. At present, together with Spain, France, Portugal, UK and Italy in Europe, and Colombia in Latin America, this innovative product is also available in this country for patients looking for a minimally invasive alternative to traditional techniques for fixing the Pectus Excavatum. More and more patients from different countries are interested in this method, so good and trained professionals are required to successfully implant the product in them.

In 2016, Ventura Medical Technologies participated in a corporate mission in Mexico in order to enter the market, hand in hand with ACCIÓ, the Agency for Business Competitiveness in Catalonia with the aim of achieving what today is already a reality: providing market access to the Pectus Up in Mexico. The mission had several goals: on one side, promoting the implant in the country, so meetings with some thoracic and pediatric surgeons from Mexico City and Monterrey were arranged; on the other side, getting familiar with regulatory and tendering aspects through the contacts acquired with the Mexican administration representatives and the experts in normative issues.

As a result of this visits, during the month of April 2017, Dr. Mario Riquelme Heras, pediatric surgeon in Monterrey, MX, travelled to Barcelona, Spain, to attend some training sessions in the new Pectus Up technique, organized by Ventura Medical Technologies.

According to ACCIÓ Mexican office director, Mrs. Gabriela Gándara, “now is a good time for Catalan companies to be present in this market, with which we share culture, consumer similarities and where Catalan products have a good reputation”. Currently, in Mexico there are 23.269 health units (including hospitals, clinics and medical centers) and 277.000 doctors.
