First surgery on a patient with Pectus Excavatum in Logroño

The 16-year-old Romanian-born patient was successfully operated on to fix his Pectus Excavatum last November, after staying in hospital for two days. He is currently recovering in his hometown after receiving medical discharge.

Dr. Miguelez, a member of the Thoracic Surgery Service team at the Hospital San Pedro of Logroño, had already took part in several training sessions at the Quirónsalud Madrid Hospital.

The Pectus Up training was provided by Dr. Andrés Varela and Dr. Javier Moradiellos, heads of the Thoracic Surgery Service in the hospital.

Other surgeons also took part in these sessions, such as Dr. Beatriz de Olaiz, Head of the Thoracic Surgery Department of the Hospital Universitario de Getafe (Madrid), Dr. Jiménez Carneros and Dr. Pedro Gato of the same hospital, as well as Dr. Pablo Morato, member of the Pediatric Surgery Service team of the Hospital Niño Jesús, also in Madrid.

Currently, the Pectus Up developed by Ventura Medical Technologies, is already present in different autonomous communities in Spain, such as in Catalonia, Valencia, Andalusia and La Rioja, and in others there are surgeons already trained to perform this surgery.

On the other hand, there are already several patients who have traveled from outside Spain, both from the European continent, and the American one, to be operated on with the Pectus Up, which allows to fix the Pectus Excavatum, also known as sunken chest or funnel chest, in a minimally invasive way.

Being an extrathoracic method, it involves a rapid recovery, which allows the patient to travel a few days after the surgery.

Ventura Medical Technologies is marketing the Pectus Up in Spain, France and Portugal in Europe, and in Colombia, Mexico and Chile in Latin America. Recently, the company has being authorized to market it in Costa Rica.

It is expected that, throughout this year, Pectus Excavatum patients from the United Kingdom, Italy, Peru and Morocco will also be able to benefit from this innovative technique, in which more and more surgeons around the world are becoming interested.
