A PATIENT FROM THE UNITED STATES TRAVELS TO BARCELONA TO UNDERGO SURGERY WITH THE PECTUS UP SURGERY KIT

Dr. Manuel López-Paredes operated at the Corachan Clinic on an 18-year-old boy who purposely travelled from Illinois to Barcelona.

The patient stayed in hospital for two days and he is currently recovering in his hometown following his discharge.

This time, Dr. López carried out the operation with Dr. Javier Bueno, using the Pectus Up, an extrathoracic implant developed by Ventura Medical Technologies to correct the Pectus Excavatum with a minimally invasive approach.

Dr. Manuel López is the current chief of Pediatric Surgery at Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, and Dr. Javier Bueno is the chief of Pediatric and Digestive Transplants at the same hospital. The surgery was also attended by Dr. Javier Pérez, attending physician in the Thoracic Surgery Service of Vall d’Hebron Hospital.

There are already several patients having traveled from the American continent to be operated on with the Pectus Up, since it is a method that involves a faster recovery than the rest, which allows the patient to travel a few days after surgery.

Among all existing techniques for the surgical treatment of Pectus Excavatum, currently the least invasive is PectusUp, since it is an extrathoracic method and cannot affect the internal organs of the chest. To date, Ventura Medical Technologies is marketing the Pectus Up implant in Spain, France and Portugal, in Europe, and in Colombia, in Latin America. Recently, the company has managed to have the first surgery performed in Mexico and soon there will be a national distributor to make available the treatment for Pectus Excavatum with Pectus Up anywhere in the country.

Throughout this year, it is expected that patients affected by Pectus Excavatum living in the United Kingdom, Italy, Chile, Peru and Costa Rica can also benefit from this innovative technique which is increasingly generating interest on more and more surgeons worldwide.
