Pectus Up SPCCTV

Dr. Abel Nascimento will introduce the Pectus Up, the extrathoracic surgical system for Pectus Excavatum developed by Ventura Medical Technologies.

The event will take place in Albufeira, at the Hotel Grande Real Santa Eulália, from November 23 to 25, 2019. The congress will be organized in cooperation with the Sociedade Portuguesa de Cirurgia Cardiotorácica e Vascular (SPCCTV), chaired by Dr. Adelino Leite Moreira, and the Sociedade Portuguesa de Cardiologia (SPC).

During the congress, topics that deal from translational medicine to the most advanced surgical techniques will be addressed. The latter is the case of Pectus Up, an excellent minimally invasive alternative for the fixing of Pectus Excavatum, developed by Ventura Medical Technologies.

On November 24, at the 6th session of the Congress, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Dr. Abel Nascimento will introduce the Pectus Up system at the session Innovation in Thoracic Surgery. The presidents of this session are Dr. Francisco Felix, thoracic surgeon and Dr. Cristina Borges, pediatric surgeon in Lisbon.

Dr. Abel Nascimento is head of the Orthopedics and Traumatology service of the hospitals of the University of Coimbra (CHUC) and professor of the Faculty of Medicine. He also chairs the Instituto de Cirugía Reconstructiva, integrated in Idealmed, an international group of renowned prestige comprised of more than 500 professionals in different specialties.

In December 2017, Nascimento performed the first Pectus Up surgery in Portugal on a 19-year-old patient. The operation took place at the Instituto de Cirugía Reconstructiva of Coimbra with excellent results.

Ventura Medical Technologies has achieved well-defined and standardized criteria for a good replication of the Pectus Up technique through an extrathoracic approach. As a result, the patient experiences very little postoperative pain. Likewise, the recovery period is less than for other techniques used to fix the Pectus Excavatum.

Pectus Up represents a great step forwards in Pectus Excavatum treatment. It is free from complications and serious risks, so it could not miss an event in which the most advanced surgical techniques in thoracic surgery will be discussed.
