Pectus Up presentation in South Africa. Chest World International Group congress.

Dr. Manuel López Paredes shared his experience with Pectus Up and that of other surgeons  specialised in the treatment of Pectus Excavatum at the 20th CWIG Congress.

The congress, which took place from July 25 to 28 in Pretoria, was aimed at pediatric surgeons, as well as thoracic surgeons and all other doctors interested in chest wall conditions and in recognizing opportunities for improvement within surgical practices for Pectus Excavatum.

On Saturday 27th, Dr. López introduced the Pectus Up technique as an excellent minimally invasive alternative in the surgical treatment of Pectus Excavatum. The session moderated by doctors Hyung Joo Park (South Korea) and Horacio Abramson (Argentina) discussed surgical innovations for the Pectus Excavatum.

A few months ago, López already introduced the Pectus Up in an international course of the CWIG, in Lucca (Italy), sponsored by the Società Italiana di Chirurgia Pediatrica. The course was aimed at thoracic, pediatric and plastic surgeons interested in surgical innovations for the treatment of Pectus Excavatum.

Dr. Manuel López-Paredes, current head of the Pediatric Surgery Service of the Hospital Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona, is one of the highests international experts in the technique, both in the implantation and in the training of Pectus Uptechnique.

Among the options to correct the Pectus Excavatum, congenital deformity of the chest wall consisting of sinking of the chest in the sternum area, there is the Pectus Up, developed by the company Ventura Medical Technologies along with Hospital Parc Taulí in Sabadell (Spain) . The new technique represents an important innovation in this field, since it is an extrathoracic and minimally invasive method that entails a significant reduction in risk, complexity and postoperative recovery.
