Granollers firm gives shape to a tool for the urology area
The collaboration between members of the pediatric surgery team of the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital and the Granollers company Ventura Medical Technologies has given rise to a new device for urological interventions. Ventura Medical has turned it into a prototype market product that, for a few years, will be used in interventions. This is the starting point for Hyposfix.
The device is used in interventions for hypospadics, a malformation of the urethra in children in the urinary tract for which the most common procedure is surgery. The complication is that the tissue is in constant movement and for stabilization the hand of an assistant was necessary, but with the device it is possible to provide stability and traction to perform the intervention.
First with an experimental instrument and later with their own prototype, the team formed by Dr. Rosa Maria Isnard and Dr. Marta de Diego has used this tool for many complex operations of long duration. The arrangement has become indispensable and no complications have arisen from them. It was then that the collaboration with the Granollers company, specialized in innovation, development, manufacturing and commercialization of our medical devices, was established.
The Unitat d’Innovació del’Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) has collaborated in the project for the protection and inclusion of its product portfolio. The design was developed, and protected with a patent. Thanks to the collaboration of three bands (surgeons, IGTP and Ventura Medical) the prototype has been developed, clinically validated and Hyposfix is ready to enter the market.
Ventura Medical Technologies is a company created in 2010. It comes from an automotive company that diversified the product and leveraged the knowledge and innovation capacity to open the way to the medical sector. Among its products is a thoracic implant, the Pectus Up, which has been on the market for many years and is being used in more than 20 countries on several continents.
